Bercy Village is a charming shopping and cultural center that offers many shops, restaurants and even a movie theater. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Bercy Village, and to celebrate this occasion, a program titled ‘Opéra côté cour’ is presenting free opera performances for all audiences to enjoy.
Every Sunday, from now until October 14, visitors staying at one of the Sister Hotels Champs Elysees can join in on the fun. This event has been taking place since 2001, when it was called ‘Opéra des Rues.’ Thanks to this festival, the streets of Bercy Village have rung out with the sounds of operas, operettas, musical comedies and fanfares accompanied by accordions and contrabass.
Now, the festival allows both newcomers and fans of opera to discover this music in all of its forms. Because the festival is out in the open air, it provides an ideal way to enjoy the last weeks of summer and the first breezes of fall.
On Sunday, September 16 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., visitors will be able to enjoy the impressive voice of opera soprano Catherine Manandaza, accompanied by Leo Debono on piano. During two forty-minute performances, Manandaza will delight spectators with pieces from some of the greatest masters of all time, including Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Mozart.
On Sunday, September 30, a show intended especially for children will be presented from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The story involves a teacher, a secret hiding place filled with special objects and a relationship created thanks to a common love of music. Parents who want to introduce their children to the magic of opera can therefore bring them to this amusing and poetic show, which lasts 45 minutes.
On Sundays, Bercy Village offers the perfect spot to spend an afternoon with friends or family in a courtyard filled with music.
